These booklets have been developed as an adjunctive form of learning to support the surgery that Nick commonly undertakes. We feel that it is very important to empower you as the patient with all of the facts you need to fully understand both the procedure and future expectations.
Nick will always take you through the ‘what’s and wherefores’ during your individual consultations but it is understandable that many of you will forget or confuse little bits of this. To help reinforce this information and hopefully address other questions you will be able to refer to your booklet. The surgical description section on this website will also provide extra information specific to your procedures.
Each one is specific to the individual surgery and contains information on:
1) Basic Anatomy
2) Common Causes
3) Surgery Description
4) Post Surgical Inpatient Care and Rehab
5) Do’s and Don’t With Associated Timescales
6) Possible Side Effects/Complications
7) Glossary
Each of you undergoing surgery will be given the appropriate booklet ideally at your last outpatient consultation with Nick, however if this is not possible it will be given to you during your stay prior to surgery. If you need to replace a copy, or indeed did not receive one but would like to read one prior to you admission then please feel free to download it.
You will need a PDF viewer such as Adobe to successfully view them. The layout is lightly diferent on the downloadable version than our hard copy but the information contained is exactly the same. We distribute the hard copy in booklet form however many of you found difficulty in printing these so we have changed the layout simply to combat this. It is always advisable when printing a ‘pdf’ document to tick the fit screen box within your printing options to avoid any sizing issues which may occur depending on your PC setup.
These booklets are freely available to all however it is imperative that you only follow the guidelines and advice set out by your own surgeon should you be under the care of a different practice. We cannot take any responsibility for variations in surgical procedures, postoperative care and/or subsequent expectations of other spinal surgeons.
